The Undy in 2010 – Part 2

May 11, 2011

2010

Here are the remaining first timers from 2010… And we hope they’ll be second, third and fourth-timers in the coming years – help us make that a possibility by registering for an Undy near you today!

Washington, DC

Our token DC Undy photo!

On Sunday, Oct. 3, the 1st annual DC Undy happened at East Potomac Park in Hains Point. This is our turf, and we at headquarters were thrilled to have an Undy within metro-distance! The DC Undy was actually the culmination of a week-long DC Goes Blue campaign, which was designed to help educate the DC public about colon cancer through various happy hour, sporting and educational events. A portion of the proceeds benefited the “DC Screen for Life Program,” which is run by Howard University Cancer Center and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown university. Make sure to mark your calendars, and join us on Nov. 5, 2011, for the 2nd annual Undy 5000 in DC!

Columbus

Spirited participants at the Columbus Undy!

For the first time ever, the Undy 5000 teamed up with another race, the Peggy Bock Memorial Race for Hope, to bring greater awareness to colon cancer in Columbus, OH on Oct. 11.  Almost 300 people showed up at Upper Arlington High School and helped raised almost $40,000. A portion of funds raised was left behind to local entities including The Wellness Community, The Columbus Cancer Clinic and James Care For Life.

Cincinnati

Participants crossing the finish line!

Because we like Ohio so much, we decided to hold consecutive Undy runs here! The Cincinnati Undy 5000 was held on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Reds Stadium, Great American Ballpark.  Almost 300 residents raised $35,000, and a generous portion of the proceeds was distributed to local organizations to help fund services for those diagnosed with colon cancer. We look forward to coming back on Oct. 8, 2011!

Atlanta

Wearing Christmas-themed boxers and hats for the Atlanta Undy!

The inaugural Atlanta Undy 5000 was one of our most successful first-year events with more than 350 participants raising almost $65,000! On Nov. 13, Undy runners ran in Historic Downtown Decatur, more than 20 of them colon cancer survivors themselves! We are super excited to be coming back on Nov. 12 for the 2nd annual Undy 5000 in Atlanta!
